Simi Valley, CA (November 1, 2009) – Zed Audio has recently begun initial shipments of it’s two new advanced technology power amplifiers for mobile audio systems, the Kronos and the Leviathan.
While Zed Audio has achieved a stellar reputation over the past 25 years as a premier OEM amplifier manufacturer for numerous upscale home and car audio brands, more recently it has focused it’s aftermarket business on a direct-sales model, catering to the needs of the DIY car audio consumer, who seek a superior value for their money.
Featuring a combination of very high power, full-system architecture, with full-range Class D technology and exceptional sound quality, the new amplifiers use a discrete, proprietary, Class D design topology which delivers extremely high-efficiency, including an innovative power supply design, featuring a regulated PWM MOSFET supply, providing high-current capability into lower impedance loads, even down to 12v. This combination of technology, including superior sound-quality, with high output, while delivering unprecedented, real-world efficiency, by virtue of Zed’s proprietary, fully-regulated power supply, is unique in the car audio realm.
The Kronos is a stereo, 2-channel amplifier rated at 250 watts RMS x 2 into 4 ohms, and 500 watts x 2 into 2 ohms mono (1kW mono 4 ohms), while the multi-channel Leviathan is a 4/5/6 channel “system” amplifier, rated at 150 watts RMS x 6 or 150 x 4 into 4 ohms and 300 per channel 2 ohms. Ideally suited for either 3-way ‘active’ or a more traditional front / rear and subwoofer systems, these two amplifiers can also be used in conjunction to create a superb 7-channel system, using the Kronos as a dedicated subwoofer amplifier, while using the Leviathan to power the front, rear and midbass drivers. The flexibility of the Leviathan is simply without equal.
Key features of the amplifiers include premium quality Burr-Brown preamp IC’s, gold-plated with “tiffany” type RCA’s, as well as Linkwitz-Riley 24 dB per octave slopes on all crossovers, along with fully-balanced driver circuitry. Each of the ‘monoblock’ output sections features high-quality, symmetrical, 6-channel Class D amplifiers, with high-current MOSFET devices. Independent LED’s are used on each channel, to indicate the onset of ‘clipping’ on any channel.
The main PWM power supply is fully-regulated, featuring large-case MOSFET devices, to deliver full- power into all channels, regardless of battery voltage and features over 20,000 mfd total capacitance.
This proprietary design, insures significantly higher power outputs into 2 ohm loads, although Zed Audio is a strong proponent of using 4 ohm loads to deliver maximum sound quality. In addition, the Leviathan also features a unique, clear plexiglass top cover, designed to showcase the 100% solid-state PCB, along with a striking neon-blue LED “ZED” power indicator on the main board.
